Important Info for a smooth Move:

Fragile and expensive items:
Please point out fragile items to us and expensive items and personal belongings like laptops, handbags should be kept with the customer at all times.
Insure that priceless antique here

Pets:
Cats and dogs should be secured so they do not run out during the move and cause heartbreak from a missing pet. Cats usually hide so plan ahead and put them in a cat carrier or lock them in the bathroom so they do not get out.

Doorman Buildings and Parking:
If move is from a doorman building please make sure you find out the times and days moves and/or deliveries are permitted (usually Monday to Friday 9am-4pm, sometimes no weekends or holidays allowed). Also, check where the service entrance is so we can park our Van there and reserve the service elevator for our scheduled time slot. Please let us know about any special parking circumstances so we can get closest to your building and eliminate parking tickets. Please try to reserve a parking space in front of the building by placing garbage cans when a car moves in front of the buildings.  Let us know about any special circumstances with the Service elevator (small elevators or elevator operator). Please inquire if you need a certificate of insurance.

Ginormous items:
When buying a large sofa or other large furniture item please get its dimensions so you can check that it will fit in your elevator or through your door, stairway or hall. Some apt doors are across from a hallway wall, make sure that there is adequate distance to angle the large item into your apt. Also check to make sure that it will fit in your elevator. We have had many instances of couches or items not fitting in the new apartment or elevator which is very distressing for the customer and moving crew.

Packing:
Please tie up power cords on appliances with tie wraps or twistys. Please don't pack your belongings in shopping bags as it's time consuming to load/unload and easily break or spill. Use thick large plastic garbage bags or contractor bags to consolidate smaller items and they are great for moving clothes too (see below). Also, if you have many shoe boxes or other small sized boxes, please tie or tape them together in stacks of 6 or 8!

Box integrity:
Please double tape your boxes on the bottom and tape your boxes closed to make sure nothing will fall out during the move. It also makes it easier to carry as the tape reinforces a box from buckling. Please try to remove all clothes from your dresser drawers (to protect from a accidental spill having your underwear on the sidewalk)  Also tape or ties shut furniture with doors or drawers so they don't open and accidentally break.

Boxes: Do not pack with big paper towel boxes - they will weigh 200 lbs and will self destruct on the stairs and give the movers a hernia. Please do not pack large boxes with heavy items such as books and CDs as this makes them dangerous and unmanageable on stairs and causes unnecessary labor for all. Book boxes are good - Books and other heavy items should be in 16x13x13" boxes and lighter items should be packed in 18x18x16" boxes. Please alert us of any large boxes as space may be limited depending on the vehicle we feel is right for your move. Wardrobe boxes are mostly used for cross country moves. Try not to use wardrobe boxes as they inefficiently store clothing and take up too much space. Use lawn/contractor bags and place your clothes in them the way Dry Cleaners do when returning clean clothes (tie wrap 6 or 8 hangers together and turn the bag upside down and make a whole for the hanger heads).
